Dr. Staffan Str?mblad is currently a Professor in Clinical Molecular Biology at the Center for Biosciences,Department of Biosciences and Nutrition, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden . He received his PhD degree from Karolinska Institutet in 1992. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Scripps Research Institute in the USA . Dr. Str?mblad’s group has for long time been studying a group of molecules called integrins on the cell surface and the role of integrin and interin-interacting proteins in the regulation of cell motility. Dr. Staffan Str?mblad and his co-workers are also interested in establishing new research methods. They are active in an international community of researchers working to develop a new strategy, “Sysytems Microscopy”, which makes it possible to study dynamic cellular processes in time and space in a quantitative manner. The idea is to combine a spectrum of methods, such as automated fluorescent microscopy, quantitative image analysis, statistics and computer modeling. Dr. Staffan Str?mblad is also the coordinator of an EU Network of Excellence in Sysytems Microscopy.
